All schools in the Latur district of Maharashtra will be closed for two days due to the expected rainfall and potential for flooding, an official said on Thursday. According to Chief Executive Officer Abhinav Goyal, schools will be closed on Friday and Saturday for Classes 1 through 12 due to the weather department’s rain forecast. The Disaster Management Act of 2005 has been implemented in the district, so even though schools will remain closed, instructors and non-teaching personnel will need to be on site.

For the past few days, the district has seen nonstop rain. Manjara Dam’s water level has increased as a result of the catchment areas receiving 50 mm of rain over the past 24 hours. The district received an average of 38 mm of rain in the 24 hours that ended at 8 am, according to the administration, bringing the total amount of rain this monsoon to 345.9 mm.

On Wednesday, two of the Manjara barrage’s gates at the village of Bhatangali were opened, and district officials have since issued a warning to residents who live close to the river’s edge.
