According to Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday, the Public Systems Lab, which was officially opened on the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campus here, may make a substantial contribution to improving the efficiency of public food procurement and distribution. He added that the lab is a prime example of innovation that would advance progress and end corruption in the nation by bringing efficiency to the public distribution system (PDS).

Goyal, who is also in charge of the ministries of consumer affairs, food, and public distribution, claimed that thanks to government programmes like PMGKAY (Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana), India has set an example for other countries in how to deal with food security in the wake of the pandemic. “I hope that everyone in attendance will take note of the two points spoken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and practise “Paanch Pran” (5 resolves). He explained how a developed country is created. What better way to start the Public Systems Lab than to do so as we enter the Amrit Kaal on the first day, “Goyal made the comment when inaugurating the lab on campus.

In order to improve the lives of millions of people who depend on public systems, the Public Systems Lab will use expertise from disciplines including operations research and artificial intelligence. This will be accomplished through creating novel solutions, testing them in the field, and assisting with their replication and scaling up for the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals. The lab will focus on working in the areas of food, health, transportation, and good governance.

The present emphasis is on public transportation and the optimization of food supply chains and systems. “In numerous ways, Public Systems Lab can be quite important. Public food distribution and procurement are essential initiatives to which this innovation can make a significant contribution “He continued by saying that the research being conducted will show the world how India is utilising innovation and technology to improve public delivery systems.
