JEE is not required. IIT Madras introduces degree in BS programming and data science.

The BSc in programming and data science curriculum at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras now offers a four-year BS degree option in data science and applications. With the new reforms, an 8-month project or apprenticeship with businesses or research institutions is now possible. August 19, 2022, is the last day to submit an application for the programme starting in September 2022. Interested candidates can submit their applications on the IITM website, onlinedegree.iitm.ac.in.

Students at IIT Madras are able to attend classes there without having to take the Joint Entrance Examination because of this programme (JEE). Thus, the programme is seen as advantageous for kids from rural areas and economically underprivileged families who might find it challenging to attend JEE coaching programmes. Additionally, the initiative provides scholarships to qualified students.

According to IIT Madras, the curriculum offers flexibility by allowing for the various entry and departure points where students can acquire a certificate, diploma, or degree. The course has been updated to include new topics like algorithmic thinking in bioinformatics, data visualisation design, industry 4.0, and reinforcement learning. According to IIT Madras, students who successfully complete the programme will be entitled to take the GATE exam, pursue an MTech in India, and apply for postgraduate degrees abroad.

Any student in Class 12 who is pursuing their academic career may apply for the programme. In a statement, IIT Madras stated. After finishing Class 12, these students can begin attending classes for the programme. There is no upper age limit for taking this course. Anyone who completed English and maths in Class 10 is eligible to enrol for the IIT Madras BSc in programming and data science course, according to the program’s eligibility requirements. This course’s classes will be delivered online. The IIT Madras BSc programming and data science course currently have about 13,000 students. Tamil Nadu has the highest percentage of students enrolled in this programme, followed by Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. The exams for this course will be held in as many as 116 examination centres across 111 cities in India and other examination centres in the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Sri Lanka.
