Students protested against the institution on Thursday, branding it a “hatemonger” for hosting RSS leader Indresh Kumar at an event. As Kumar spoke at an event on the campus of Jamia Millia Islamia, dozens of students gathered outside gate number 7.

During a conference titled “Modi@20: Dreams Meet Delivery,” Kumar was in attendance at the institution to give the keynote lecture. “With all the strength of a student, one must oppose hatemongers like Indresh Kumar… Hateful individuals must no longer be allowed access to a democratic university like Jamia by the administration of the institution “Shoaib, a student at Jamia and an AISA activist, said. Students were spotted carrying signs that read, “Stop Inviting Hatemonger in Jamia” and “Let us Explain on what parameter Indresh is honoured in Jamia.”

The demonstration was joined by a number of student organisations, including Campus Front of India, Students Islamic Organization of India, All India Students Association, and Dayar-e-Shauq Student Charter. In addition to being academically irrelevant, “Indresh Kumar is also the same man, who has repeated the hate rhetoric of RSS at every step, calling CAA protestors “traitors,” advocating for a “uniform civil code,” and calling the consumption of meat a “sin,” among other things,” the AISA said in a statement.

Jamia students have protested Kumar’s visit to the campus in the past as well. Students at the university criticised Kumar’s attendance at an Iftar celebration hosted by the Muslim Rashtriya Manch, an organisation linked with the RSS, in 2017.
