IIT Madras alumni association launches 'AskIITM' website aimed at IIT aspirants.

On Friday, alumni of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras (Madras) unveiled a website that will enable IIT candidates to speak with IIT Madras alumni directly and receive answers to inquiries on anything from placements, faculty, and academics, to campus culture. The AskIITM website, askiitm.com, was created by alumni to assist individuals wishing to attend IIT Madras.

The institution said in a statement that the AskIITM website, which went live on August 26, already offers answers to frequently asked queries. These commonly asked questions include, among others, inquiries about dormitory amenities and mess cuisine, as well as “Is it true that IIT Madras is a hub for EV technology?” and “What activities enabled IIT Madras to earn NIRF rank #1 for 4 years in a row?”

Anyone can submit a question about the institution through the website, and a team of alumni and student volunteers will respond within 48 hours, according to the institute. The new question will be posted on the website for the benefit of other users after being answered by email or Whatsapp. IIT Madras director V Kamakoti urged JEE hopefuls to use this website, saying, “Aspirants resort to social media to obtain information, but there is so much material that it is confusing. A reliable source of information is absolutely necessary. I’m delighted that AskIITM is being used to provide this by the dedicated alumni of this fantastic institute.

I am convinced that this is the beginning of a journey for both IITM and Indian education as a whole. As part of the AskIITM programme, the IIT Madras alumni association will host interactive sessions in Chennai, Hyderabad, and Vijayawada between September 2 and September 4. During the occasion, JEE aspirants will have the chance to speak with the director and alumni in person. On September 10 and 11, virtual tours of the campus and its various departments will be offered.
