In response to Member of Parliament (MP) Karti P Chidambaram’s request for a single exemption for JEE Main 2022 candidates who faced technical problems and are unable to take the JEE Main 2023 exam, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the issue has been forwarded to the relevant department. The minister also expressed his gratitude to the MP in a letter.

The Education Minister, dpradhanbjp, EduMinOfIndia has replied to my message of the 2nd and 15th December, 2022, which asked for a one-time exemption in the JEE Main and Advanced exams for 2023, Pradhan said in the letter. The MP then tweeted, “I hope the Government will consider the grievances of all students that could be affected by the #JEE2023 and act accordingly.”

On December 9th, during the winter session of Parliament, the MP made a plea to Pradhan to have the National Testing Agency (NTA) ease the conditions of eligibility for all those wishing to take the JEE Main 2023 engineering entrance examination and let everyone sit for the test.

Before the intervention, Chidambaram sent a letter to the union education minister in which he pointed out that both sessions of the JEE Main 2022 (in June and July 2022) were plagued by multiple technical issues such as computer systems crashing repeatedly, screens freezing for a few minutes, questions taking too long to load, and some questions being incomplete. This ultimately led to a lot of candidates experiencing a drastic drop in their scores and percentiles.

Furthermore, numerous students were unable to take the JEE Main 2022 test due to sudden alterations in the examination centre. Following the exam, numerous aspirants also experienced discrepancies in their answer sheets and mistakes in the JEE Main 2022 scores. Thus, the MP implored Dharmendra Pradhan to intercede and issue a one-time concession, easing the eligibility standards for all candidates appearing for JEE Main 2023 and JEE Advanced 2023.
