The National Fellowship for Other Backward Classes has been requested to be paid out immediately by the All India OBC Students Association (AIOBCSA) to the University Grants Commission (UGC) (NFOBC). According to a letter from AIOBCSA to UGC Chairman M. Jagadesh Kumar, the National Fellowship for Other Backward Classes (NFOBC) holders has not received their fellowship money for five months. Without the fellowship money, it will be challenging to carry on the research because the majority of them come from economically, socially, and educationally disadvantaged communities.
Additionally, the OBC student organization urged the UGC chairman to provide the fellowship money on a monthly basis.

The National Fellowship for Other Backward Classes programme has been carried out by the UGC with funding provided by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Candidates who fall under the OBC category and are enrolled in regular, full-time MPhil and PhD programmes in the humanities, social sciences, engineering, and technology are eligible for the programme.

“There are 300 fellowship awards available each year for all areas, and applications submitted online by research scientists who fall under the OBC category are taken into account. According to the official website, there is a 3 percent reserve for slots for the consideration of awarding fellowships to research researchers for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) who belong to the OBC group.
