Over 84,600 posts are lying vacant in six paramilitary forces, including CRPF and BSF, while 1.12 lakh posts have been filled up in these forces in the last three years, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai told Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

According to Rai, 10 percent of openings in the paramilitary forces are set aside for ex-servicemen up to the level of assistant commandant to be filled through direct recruiting, in accordance with guidelines from the Department of Personnel and Training. Additionally, he stated that preliminary approval has been given for the reservation of 10% of openings for ex-Agniveers in the recruitment to the positions of constable (general duty) and rifleman in these forces when the first batch of ex-Agniveers becomes available for recruitment after completing engagement period of four years in defence forces.

As of July 31, 2022, there are 84,659 open positions in the Assam Rifles and Central Armed Police, according to the minister’s written response. He claimed that the administration had decided to fill any open positions in these forces by December 2023. According to Rai, 10,377 positions in the paramilitary forces have been filled as of 2022, 69,551 positions in 2021, and 32,400 positions in 2020.
