The UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist exam, also known as UPSC CGSG exam and it is organized by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Every year UPSC conducts this exam to recruit no. of eligible applicants as Geologist, Geophysicist, Chemist, Junior Hydrologist, etc under the central government. The purpose of this exam is to recruit applicants under the service of GSI (Geological Survey of India) and CWB (Central Water Board) for Grade ‘A’ and Grade ‘B’ posts. The posts such as Geologist, Geophysicist, and Chemist come under the Grade ‘A’ and the post of Junior Hydrologist comes under the Grade ‘B’.

UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist Exam 2022 Application Process

The application form has now been closed for the Year 2022.

The application window will open and the application will be accepted from the commencement date of the application process. Applicants can apply for this recruitment exam in online mode on the official website www.upsconline.nic.in. once after the application window will start. The application procedure will consist of two parts, Part-1: Enlistment or Registration, and Part 2: Application Form Filling Process.

In the first part, applicants have to enroll/register themselves on the official website of UPSC. After the successful registration, they will get a Login ID and Password for further login. Now in the second part, they have to fill the application form with all the required details correctly. In the last, they have to upload the scanned copy of required documents in the same format as described in the official notification.

Steps To Apply

First of all, open the webpage upsconline.nic.in. Now find the link and click on it named, “ONLINE APPLICATION FOR VARIOUS EXAMINATIONS OF UPSC” after clicking on this link a list will appear for various exams. Now select the desired examination i.e UPSC CGSG exam 2022 link. Now proceed as described in the following stages.

  • Click on the link named,  “Click Here for PART I” against “COMBINED GEO-SCIENTIST (Preliminary) EXAMINATION 2022”.
  • Now read all the provided instructions and then click on the “Yes” button to proceed next.

Part-I Registration Process

  1. Here you have to fill in all the required details such as Applicant’s full name, Mother’s Name, Father’s Name, Mobile no. Email Id, Nationality, etc.
  2. Next, you have to fill the age relaxation section here you have to fill that you want to claim for age relaxation according to your category or not, fill the section accordingly.
  3. Now select an ID card from options to fill in the ID card number that you have. After filling in the ID detail, choose the category of the service that you are going to apply for, select the desired examination center.
  4. After filling in the above details, applicants have to preview the registration form. Applicants can make changes here if they want to do so by clicking on the ‘Update’ button.
  5. Now enter the captcha code and click on ‘I Agree’.
  6. After this, your first part of the registration process will complete. Now print a hard copy of the current registration page.
  7. Once the registration process becomes complete, a registration no. and password will be sent on your registered mail ID or Mobile no.
  8. For the second part of registration, click on the link named “Click Here for II Part Registration” and then you will move to the next stage to complete the registration process.

Part – II Registration Process

  1. Now you have to Log in to your account by using the Registration ID and Password that have been provided earlier to you.
  2. Now enter the same Captcha code as shown in the image there.
  3. Now fill the preferred exam center nearby to you and then ‘Submit’ the form to proceed next.
  4. After completing the above process, you have to upload a scanned soft copy of your photo, handwritten signature, and ID card by clicking on the ‘Upload Image’ option.
  5. After uploading the documents, Preview them and make changes if required, and click on ‘Continue’ to proceed next.
  6. Now enter the number of your photo ID card and carefully read the given declaration. Then click on the ‘Final Submit’ button.
  7. Once you will complete the above procedure your second part of registration will be completed.

Application Fee

  • After completing both the steps of registration, applicants have to pay the required application/registration fee. Only after the fee payment, your registration will be accepted.
  • Applicants will have an option to choose the mode of payment because the application fee will be paid in both the modes i.e. Online and Offline.
  • The online fee will be debited through Credit card/ Debit Card/ Master Card/ Visa/ Rupay.
  • The offline fee will be paid through SBI banking service at your nearest branch via Cash.

UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist Exam 2022 Eligibility Criteria

Age-Limit

  • The minimum age limit of the applicants should be 21 while the maximum will be 32 (vary as per the applicant’s category).
  • The age relaxation will be provided to the applicants depending on their category:

Nationality

  • The nationality of applicants should be Indian.
  • The refugees of Nepal/ Bhutan /Tibetan who have come to India before January 1, 1962 shall be eligible to write this test.
  • Applicants of Indian Origin from Pakistan/Vietnam /Burma/Sri Lanka/or East Africa ( Zambia, Malawi, Uganda Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Zaire) shall be eligible to write this test.

Educational Qualification

The educational requirements shall be different for different posts, depending on the requirement of the post.

Geologist (Group ‘A’, Geological Survey of India):

The applicants must have acquired a Masters Degree in any one of the following subjects:

  • Geological Science
  • Mineral Exploration

 Geo –Physicist (Group ‘A’, Geological Survey of India):

The applicants must have acquired a Masters’s Degree in any one of the following subjects from any college/ university-recognized by UGC.

Only those applicants will call for interviews who have qualified for the mains exam. The interview will be of 200 marks. In the interview, the personality, aptitude, intellectual, leadership quality, tact, initiative, integrity, etc will be tested.

The detailed syllabus of each paper will be available on the official website of UPSC. Applicants are advised to download the syllabus of their respective subjects. The GS (General Studies) Paper will be common for all the applicants, the syllabus for the GS paper is mentioned below-

UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist Exam 2022 Admit Card

The hall ticket/ admit card of the UPSC CGSG exam for both the stages i.e. Pre and Mains will be released separately. The hall ticket/ admit card will be available online on the official website of UPSC upsc.gov.in.

In order to download the hall ticket/ admit card, applicants will be asked to enter their Name and Registration Number. It is compulsory for all the applicants to carry their hall ticket along with them at the examination center otherwise the entry will be exempted. The hall ticket/admit card contains informations such as the Name of Candidates, Exam Center, Roll no., Candidate’s photo, etc.

UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist Exam 2022 Result

The result of all the three stages (Pre, Mains, and Interview) will be published on the official website of UPSC. The final merit list will be prepared based on marks obtained in the Mains exam and Interview. The procedure to download the result of the UPSC CGSG exam is mentioned below.

How to Download?

  1. Go to the official website of UPSC. i.e. upsc.gov.in.
  2. Now click on UPSC Geo-Scientist and Geologists Pre/Mains result option appearing on the homepage.
  3. After clicking on the link, a new page will appear and the result will be there in PDF format will.
  4. Applicants can check their result by pressing Ctrl+F and their Roll Number.
  5. The pass-out applicants will have to download the UPSC Geo-Scientist and Geologists exam result along with its hard copy for future references.

Note: All the shortlisted applicants will have to fill the required UPSC Geo-Scientist 2022 DAF (Detailed Application Form). All the details and important instructions regarding this DAF will be available on the official website of UPSC i.e. upsc.gov.in. Applicants have to visit the website for the same if they clear the mains exam.


UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist Exam 2022 Selection Procedure

The selection for the posts of Geo-Scientist and Geologist will be based on three stages namely, Pre Exam, Mains Exam, and Interview. The final merit list will be made on behalf of marks obtained in the Mains exam and Interview.

Preliminary Exam: This exam will be held in 2 papers. Paper 1 is the same for all which carries 100 marks and Paper 2 is post-preference-based (subject-based) and carries 300 marks. The question type will be Objective. Those applicants who clear the minimum cut-off marks in the Pre exam shall be eligible for the next round of exams i.e. Mains. Almost 7 to 8 times of applicants shall have the chance to write the mains paper.

Main Exam: The main exam will be held in 3 papers of 200 marks each. The question type will be descriptive. Those applicants who clear the minimum cut-off marks in the Mains exam shall be eligible for the next round of exam i.e. Interview.

Personal Interview: The applicants who will clear both the above stages will call for the interview. The personality test/interview will carry 200 marks. Applicants who will clear this round will be posted according to their overall rank.
