IES Officer Salary (Basic Pay) Structure

In-Hand Salary

IES Officer Allowances

Probation Period

Candidates hired through UPSC ESE for the Indian Railways are required to undergo 18 months of training. They are educated at the Indian Railways National Academy (NAIR). IES officer Recruitment Process

For an IES Officer, there are three steps of recruitment: –

Interview (Personality Test)

Career Growth, Opportunities and Promotions

  • As an Assistant Executive Engineer or Assistant Director, the candidate is chosen first.
  • After 3-4 years of service, he is eligible for promotion to Executive Engineer or Director. However, depending on the candidate’s performance throughout service, this time frame may change.
  • After about 13 years of service, he or she is eligible for promotion to Joint General Manager or Level 2 Chief Engineer.
  • After approximately 20 years of service, you may be promoted to Chief Engineer or AGM (Additional General Manager).
  • After 30 years of service, the officer is now qualified to become a Senior General Manager.
  • The officer will receive the final promotion after 34 years of service when he or she would be promoted to Managing Director or Chairperson.
