IAF Group X and Y Exams
Through Group X and Y exams, the Indian Air Force recruits candidates as airmen in various groups and departments. Candidates who pass this exam will be able to obtain an entry-level position in the Indian Air Force, allowing them to serve their country. Every year, the Central Airmen Selection Board (CASB) administers this exam. Eligible candidates can apply for this exam after the official notification is released.
Candidates are chosen based on a written exam, a physical fitness test, a medical exam, and other factors. Candidates receive a joining letter and are invited to training after passing all of these stages. Candidates are assigned to various air force stations and units as Airmen after completing their training.

IAF Airmen Eligibility 2022
Before applying, candidates should review the eligibility requirements. The following are the eligibility requirements for IAF Airmen Selection:
Age Criteria
The candidate must have been born between January 16, 2001, and December 29, 2004. (both days inclusive). The maximum age limit is 21 years old as of the enrollment date.
Educational Qualification
Group X
- Either a Class 12 pass with at least 50 percent in aggregate and 50 percent in English, or a Class 12 pass with Mathematics, Physics, and English with at least 50 percent in aggregate.
- Alternatively, pass a three-year diploma in engineering (any stream) with a 50 percent overall. In addition, if English is not a subject in the diploma, you must have at least 50% in English in the intermediate.
Group Y
- Either a Class 12 pass in any stream with a minimum of 50% in aggregate and 50% in English is required.
- Alternatively, pass a two-year vocational course with a 50 percent overall grade. Also, if English is not a subject in the diploma, you must have 50 percent in English in intermediate.
Group Y- Medical Assistant
- Class 12 pass with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English with 50% in aggregate and 50% in English.
Point to keep in mind:
- Those who qualify for Group X based on their class 12 grades are also eligible for Group Y. They have the option of appearing in both groups X and Y at the same time. If this is the case, you must select this option when filling out an online form.
- Only diploma holders are eligible to apply for Group X.
- Only boards that are currently listed on COBSE at the time of registration will be considered.
- Prior to the decimal, marks written on the mark sheet will be considered. It should not be rounded off.
IAF Airmen Application Process

- Step 3: To complete the registration process, you must provide all the required information, such as your name, phone number, and email address.
- Step 4: Your registration number and password will be sent to your registered phone number and email address.
- Step.5: To log in successfully, enter your registration number and password.
- Step 6: Click here to access the online application form. Choose a position and fill out all of the required information, such as full name, parent/guardian name, date of birth, address, educational qualifications, and so on.
- Step.7 In the required size and format, upload all documents such as photographs, signatures, caste/category certificates, educational certificates, and so on.
- Step 8: Make an online payment.
- Step 9: Fill out and submit the application form.
- Step 10: Print the application form for future reference.

IAF Airmen Selection Process 2022
First Phase- Online Test
The Indian Air Force Airmen Selection Group X and Y Phase I Online Test is open to all candidates who applied online. The admit card contains information about the exam date and location. For both Groups X and Y, it is a computer-based test that must be completed in one sitting. Each question is worth one mark, with 0.25 mark deducted for incorrect answers.

Second Phase
Only those candidates who passed Phase I can proceed to Phase II. On this day, they must bring a number of documents.
Physical Fitness Test
Qualified candidates have to go to Airmen Selection Centre for Physical Fitness Test. It consists of
- 1.6 kms running in 6 mins 30 seconds.
- 10 push ups
- 10 sit ups
- 20 squats
For the PFT, candidates should wear their athletic shoes and shorts or track pants.
Adaptability Test I
It’s a written objective test. This test determines the suitability of candidates for IAF recruitment by putting them in a variety of geographic, weather, and operational conditions.
Adaptability Test II
Those who pass the adaptability test I are required to take the adaptability test II. This determines their ability to adapt to a military lifestyle.
Third Phase- Medical Examination
Adaptability test II qualifiers receive a medical appointment letter from their respective Airmen Selection Center. They can also get it from the CASB website and take the exam at the appropriate MBC. A medical examination would also include:

Average Pay and Allowances provided:
During training, candidates are paid Rs 14,600 per month. Following that, they are paid gross emoluments based on a minimum pay scale, which includes Military Scale Pay (MSP) Group X (only for Group X) and DA, as follows:
- For Group X: Rs 33,100 pm plus DA
- For Group Y: Rs 26,900 pm plus DA
Other Allowance:
Aspirants also receive a transportation allowance, a composite personal maintenance allowance (cpma), a leave ration allowance (lra), a high altitude allowance, a field area/modified field area allowance, a human resource allowance (HRA), and a child education allowance/hostel subsidy.
