Phase 1: AFCAT Online Exam Pattern
The AFCAT Exam and Engineering Knowledge Test, or EKT, is an online test offered at several AFCAT Exam locations. There will be objective-type questions on this exam. The AFCAT Online Exam is worth 300 marks and is open to both non-technical and technical candidates. EKT Exam will be conducted for 150 marks for technical candidates.

EKT Written Exam Pattern
- Engineering Expertise Test, or EKT, is a test that assesses a candidate’s engineering knowledge.
- Candidates seeking the Technical Ground Duty branch must take the test.
- EKT 2022 is an online English language test that is given in two shifts.
Phase 2: Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) Interview
The IAF will compile a list of candidates who received the minimum qualifying marks (cut-off marks) in the Online AFCAT written Exam 2022. Qualified candidates will be called for the AFSB, also known as Air Force Selection Board or SSB, which is the following stage. Dehradun, Mysuru, Gandhinagar, and Varanasi will be the testing centres for the AFSB.
Candidates will go through various levels at the AFSB (Air Force Selection Board Exam), which include examinations such as the Picture Perception Description Test and the Psychological Test. The candidate’s mental and physical fitness will be assessed at several stages during this test. The SSB is a 5-day interview stage that consists of the phases below.
STAGE I
Candidates are frequently called for a Screening exam during this first round. On this day, you will take a test to determine your mental fitness. The tests performed on the first day of the SSB stage are listed below.

If any candidates do not pass the Stage I/Screening Test, they will be unable to continue with the AFCAT selection process.
STAGE II
Once a candidate has passed Stage I, he or she will be entitled to take STAGE II, which will take 3 to 4 days. You will be subjected to the following tests over the next few days in order to assess your overall mental fitness and personality, which are essential for the positions listed above.

STAGE III for Flying Branch
- Only the recommended candidates will be subjected to a Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS).
- Candidates who have previously failed the CPSS/PABT or who have been suspended from flying instruction at the Air Force Academy will not be able to participate in this level.
- This is a once-in-a-lifetime test.
Phase 3: Medical Examination
You will be called for the Medical Examination round once you have passed all of the previous rounds. The authority will establish clear standard medical fitness standards for candidates. Only those applicants will be chosen by the Indian Air Force (IAF) who get the minimum qualifying marks in both the written examination and the AFSB test, as determined by the IAF. On the basis of their total marks in the written examination and the AFSB exams, candidates will be put in order of merit.
Other important considerations for candidates before taking the AFCAT Exam
Physical Fitness:
Candidates reporting for the SSB examination should be physically fit because they will be subjected to a variety of tests at the AFSB. Candidates must be able to run 1 mile in 10 minutes, perform 10 push-ups, and perform 3 chin-ups.
Tattoos: Permanent body tattoos are only allowed on the inner forearm (from the inside of the elbow to the wrist) and the backside of the palm/backside of the hand.
Narcotics:
The use and possession of narcotics are strictly forbidden.
Training: Candidates who have been found fit by the appropriate medical board and recommended by the AFSBs will be detailed for training, which will be based solely on merit and the availability of vacancies in the various branches or sub-branches.
Date & Duration:
For all courses, training will begin the first week of January 2022. Flying and Ground Duty (Technical) Branches will train for 74 weeks, while Ground Duty (Non-Technical) Branches will train for 52 weeks at the Air Force Training Establishments.
Physical Condition
- Candidates are urged to maintain good physical condition in order to adapt to the Physical Training that will take place at the AFA.
- Running, swimming, rope climbing, and other forms of physical training will be part of the programme, and they will be subjected to mandatory exams.
- Candidates can maintain their physical fitness by following the routine outlined below:
- Swimming (25 Meters)
- Chin-Ups (Minimum 08)
- Skipping
- Running – 4 Km in 15 Minutes
- Push-Ups & Sit-Ups (20 Each Minimum)
