Educational requirements, age limits, and physical standards are among the AFCAT eligibility criteria established by the IAF. The official notification contains information on AFCAT eligibility. The 2022 AFCAT 1 exam will be held on February 12-14, 2022. These guidelines, known as eligibility criteria, outline basic minimum requirements for candidates, such as educational qualifications, age requirements, and fitness to perform the duties assigned by the authority.

The Indian Air Force organizes the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT). The examination is held twice a year, in February and August. This is for the purpose of selecting Class-I Gazetted Officers for both flying and ground duties (Technical and Non-Technical).

AFCAT Eligibility Criteria 2022: Highlights

Before applying for the AFCAT Exam, candidates must check the eligibility requirements. The technical and non-technical branches of the AFCAT have different eligibility criteria. To avoid rejection, candidates must ensure that they meet all of the AFCAT eligibility requirements.

The candidate must be an Indian citizen and abide by the Indian Citizenship Act of 1955. Candidates for the AFCAT 2022 must meet the authorities’ eligibility requirements in terms of age, educational qualifications, nationality, marital status, and physical and medical standards.


AFCAT Eligibility Criteria – Important Points

  • The conducting body will not accept any online application forms that are incomplete.
  • Candidates must ensure that the information provided in the online application form matches the information provided in the candidate’s uploaded documents, which will be verified against their original documents during the document verification round. If any information is found to be false or incorrect, the authority may reject his/her candidature.
  • Candidates should bring a list of all important documents specified by the authority, such as an AFCAT admit card, a call letter, photographs pasted on the Online Application Form, an Online submitted application form, and all original certificates/documents in support of their eligibility, to the Document Verification.
  • Candidates should be aware that the IAF will only accept the Date of Birth as printed/recorded on the Matriculation/Higher Secondary Examination Certificate or an equivalent certificate on the date of application submission, and no subsequent requests for its change will be considered or granted.
  • Government Employees: NOC (No Objection Certificate): Applicants who are currently employed by the government, including those in the Armed Forces, Government-owned industrial undertakings, or other similar organisations, must apply only after obtaining necessary permission from their respective departments, and they must produce a NOC at the time of AFSB (Air Force Selection Board) testing, failing which they will be routed back without being tested. Regardless of whether the candidate is a permanent, temporary, or contract employee, a NOC is required.

AFCAT Eligibility: Age Criteria

In AFCAT posts, the age limit varies by branch:

AFCAT Eligibility: Marital Status

AFCAT Non-Technical Ground Duty Eligibility: Educational Criteria

The eligibility criteria for the AFCAT vary by department, and they are listed below.

B.Com Degree (Minimum three years degree course) from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.

AFCAT Education Eligibility: Educational Criteria 

MBA/ MCA or MA/ MSc degree in English/ Physics/ Mathematics/ Chemistry/ Statistics/ International Relations/ International Studies/Defense Studies/ Psychology/ Computer Science/ IT/ Management/ Mass Communication/ Journalism/ Public Relations with a minimum of 50% on all papers.

AFCAT Meteorology Eligibility Criteria

Post Graduate Degree in any Science stream/Applied Physics/ Oceanography/Meteorology/Agricultural Meteorology/Ecology & Environment/Geophysics/Environmental Biology/ Mathematics/ Statistics/Geography/Computer Applications/Environmental Science with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers put together (Provided Maths and Physics were studied at Graduation Level with a minimum of 55 percent marks in each).

NCC Flying Branch Eligibility: Special Entry Criteria

In the AFCAT Flying Branch, there are two eligibility criteria for the NCC special entry. Any one of them must be met by the aspirants.

  • The NCC Air Wing Senior Division ‘C’ certificate must be obtained on or after January 1, 2017. Candidates must have completed a minimum of three years of study in any discipline from a recognised university with a minimum of 60 percent marks or equivalent. Graduates with a minimum of three years of study in any discipline from a recognised university with a minimum of 60 percent marks or equivalent.
  • BE/B Tech degree (four-year course) with a minimum of 60% or equivalent from a recognised university.
  • Candidates who have passed Section A and B of the Associate Membership of the Institution of Engineers (India) or the Aeronautical Society of India examinations with a minimum of 60% or equivalent from a recognised university.

Note: Candidates with an LLB or integrated/dual degree may be considered for employment on the IAF’s legal duties (after commissioning).

AFCAT Eligibility: Physical & Medical Standards

The candidate must be in excellent physical condition and pass the physical assessment criteria. Spine Injuries, Nerve Injuries, Keloids, Surgical Scars, Birthmarks, Subcutaneous swellings, Cervical ribs, Craniofacial deformities, and history of the candidate’s operations are among the categories that are evaluated to ensure that medical standards are met.

  • At AFSB, the candidates will be measured for height and weight.
  • In Flying Branch, the minimum height requirement for both men and women is 162.5cms. Thigh Length: Max – 64 cms; Leg Length: Min – 99 cms, Max – 120 cms; Sitting Height: Min – 81.5 cms, Max – 96 cms.
  • Male candidates in the Ground Duty Technical/ Non-technical) branch must be at least 157.5 cms tall. The standard minimum height for female candidates is 152 cms.

AFCAT Physical Eligibility for Male

Visual Standards

Visual Standards are another important aspect of physical measurement. If you want to serve in the Air Force, your visual standard must be flawless. The authority’s visual standard for Fly Branch and Ground Duty is different. The minimum eyesight required for fly branch and ground duty candidates is shown below. AFCAT Eligibility Criteria – Number of Attempts

If a candidate is between the ages of 20 and 26, he or she can attempt all of the tasks. The AFCAT competition is held twice a year. So a total of 16 attempts are allowed: 2 AFCAT attempts per year (total of 8 attempts) and 2 AFCAT attempts per year. Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria outlined above, as well as the age limit criteria outlined in this article, are eligible to take the exam.


AFCAT Eligibility Criteria – Nationality

Candidates applying for AFCAT positions with the Indian Air Force must be Indian citizens. Foreign nationals are ineligible to apply for Class-I Gazetted Officers in Flying and Ground Duties (Technical and Non-Technical) Posts.

AFCAT Eligibility Criteria – Experience

For the AFCAT positions, no prior experience is required. For the Class-I Gazetted Officers in Flying and Ground Duties (Technical and Non-Technical) Posts, any fresher can apply. Keep in mind that he meets all of the other requirements.


AFCAT Eligibility Criteria Grounds of Rejection

Candidates’ applications may be rejected for the following reasons:

  • Candidates who have previously failed the Computerized Pilot Selection System (CPSS) or who have been suspended from flying training at the Air Force Academy will be ineligible to apply for the Flying Branch.
  • Candidates who were previously admitted to the National Defence Academy, Indian Military Academy, Air Force Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai, and Officers Training Academy Gaya but were later dismissed due to indiscipline are not eligible to apply.
  • Candidates who have been barred from holding any type of commission in the Defence Services by the Ministry of Defence are ineligible for AFCAT, and if admitted, their candidature will be canceled.
  • Candidates who have been convicted of a crime or who are currently involved in a criminal case are ineligible to apply.

AFCAT Eligibility for Government Employee

If aspirants work for the government or a government-owned company, they must adhere to certain rules and regulations when applying for the AFCAT 2022 exam. The No-Objection Certificate is comprised of these terms and policies. Examine the following policies in detail to get a better idea:

  1. Aspirants (both from the government and from government-owned industrial sections) must show NOC during AFSB testing. Regardless of whether they are contractual, permanent, or temporary subordinates, the aspirants must show this NOC.
