Nearly 2,000 medical students who left war-torn Ukraine and returned to India will be transferred to colleges in Uzbekistan where they can finish their degrees. At a gathering here on Thursday, Dilshod Akhatov, the ambassador of Uzbekistan to India, gave several pupils “provisional admission letters.”
According to him, appeals from “Indian partners” to consider the prospect of moving some of the students to Uzbekistan’s institutions led to the absorption of Indian students who had returned from studying in Ukraine. “The need for allocation was really high. Our Indian partners have asked us to look into the possibility of relocating some of the Indian students who studied in Ukraine to Uzbekistan’s universities.” He added that Uzbekistan hopes to become a significant international centre for education. According to B Divya Raj Reddy, Director of NEO Educational Consultancy, about 2,000 Indian medical students will be housed at Uzbekistani institutions.
