The Manufacturing Execution System, IIoT database, and intelligence software platforms’ core components will be created by the Smart Manufacturing and Digital Transformation Centre (SMDTC), which was established by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras. This project aims to assist Indian MSMEs in implementing Industry 4.0 techniques and independent production.
According to a release from IIT Madras, the SMDTC at IIT Madras seeks to democratise smart manufacturing and digital transformation. The centre’s emphasis will be on education and community engagement for capacity building, maturity assessment, an experience centre with facilities for a model factory, cooperative research, 5G enablement, and supply chain collaboration.
The Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Centre (AMTDC), IIT Madras, MESA International (Manufacturing Enterprise Solutions Association), and Cartier Systems are partners in establishing the centre. On July 13, 2022, N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, officially opened the IIT Madras SMDTC.
According to N Ramesh Babu, professor in the mechanical engineering department at IIT Madras and secretary of the AMTDC, “SMDTC will take the lead in setting up a Smart Manufacturing Model Factory / Experience Centre and also support Collaborative Research / Innovation for Industry 4.0 in Process Intelligence, Robotics, and Machining Dynamics Control Automation.”
“Derived from the international experiences of MESA’s members, the SMDTC will assist in innovative manufacturing education and maturity assessment so that Indian MSMEs can access the most current international implementation methods. To build the Smart Manufacturing Experience Center, Cartier will deliver the MES 4.0 platform, according to Prabakar Selvam, CEO of Cartier Systems and chairman of MESA APAC.
