On October 27th, in honour of “Bhai Dooj,” the Directorate of School Education in the state of Haryana proclaimed a vacation for all public, government-aided, and private schools. Kuldeep Mehta, assistant director (Academic), said in a letter that all schools would be closed on October 27 in observance of “Bhai Dooj.”
On its official Twitter account, the DSE Haryana stated: “In honour of Bhai Dooj, the Haryana Education Department has proclaimed October 27, 2022, a holiday in all of the state’s public, private, and aided schools. All of the district education officers and district elementary education officers in the state have received instructions in this regard.”
Additional names for Bhai Dooj include Bhaubeej, Bhai Tika, Bhai Phonta, and Bhratri Dwitiya. According to the Vikram Samvat calendar, Hindus observe it on the second lunar day of Shukla Paksha, also known as the light fortnight. The celebrations for Holi and Diwali coincide with the event. The way in which this day is observed is similar to how brothers give their sisters gifts on Raksha Bandhan. Schools will be closed on October 24 in observance of Diwali.
