The University Grants Commission (UGC) has advised students against enrolling in Wardha, Maharashtra’s Digital University of Skill Resurgence. In a warning published today, July 19, 2022, UGC warned that enrolling in such “self-styled” colleges could endanger students’ careers. According to UGC, The Digital University of Skill Resurgence is delivering courses in violation of the UGC Act of 1956. According to Section 22 of the UGC Act, institutions regarded to be universities under Section 3 are also eligible to confer degrees on students, as are universities formed or incorporated through central, provisional, state, or institutional acts. Institutions empowered by an act of parliament can also confer degrees. UGC says that the Digital University of Skill Resurgence does not fall into any of these categories.
The UGC additionally stipulated that no educational institution may in any way refer to itself as a “university” unless it was founded in accordance with a central act, interim act, or state act. The Digital University of Skill Resurgence is delivering courses in flagrant violation of the UGC Act, according to the commission. The UGC Act’s clauses that demonstrate the Digital University of Skill Resurgence’s violation are expressly cited in the public notice as evidence of the infraction.
