The Delhi High Court rejected a request to reschedule the date of the examinations for the Civil Services (Mains) or the FSSAI recruitment, both of which were planned for September 24, stating that doing so at this late stage would be highly inconvenient and unfair to other applicants. The petitioner said that he put a lot of effort into studying for the tests and wanted to show up for both. He will be unable to participate in either of the two exams if the date for one of them is not modified.
“Even yet, the Civil Services (Mains) examination date of September 24, 2022, was publicised at least two months prior, and similarly, the date for the tests for the posts of Technical Officer and Central Food Safety Officer was made known to the candidates more than a month prior.
In a ruling issued on September 2, Justice Rekha Palli stated, “There is no justification by the petitioner in approaching the court at this belated stage with barely three weeks left for the examinations when all arrangements for holding the examinations in a large number of centres all across the country have already been made by the respondents. The high court ruled that the authorities had a good case for arguing that candidates would be seriously inconvenienced and negatively affected by any modification in the exam schedule at this late date. It added that there was no merit in the appeal and dismissed it, saying that the petitioner “will, therefore, have to make a decision as to which of the two examinations he chooses to appear.”
The petitioner stated in his argument that he was a candidate for the Civil Services (Mains) Examination that the Union Public Service Commission would be held on September 24 as well as the examinations for the positions of Central Food Safety Officer and Technical Officer that the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) would be holding on the same day.
He said that one of the two authorities should be told to adjust the exam date so he could show up for both of them. The authorities’ attorney rejected the claim, arguing that all preparations for the smooth administration of the exams at numerous locations around the nation had already been made and that changing the exam date would result in complete administrative chaos. Many candidates who have been preparing to take these exams for the past several months will be severely inconvenienced, they claimed.
