The Central Bureau of Investigation performed searches in 91 spots throughout India on Thursday in relation to its examination of several state medical councils and foreign medical graduates who were granted permission to work in India without taking a required examination, according to officials.

A First Information Report was filed by the agency against 14 state medical councils and 73 foreign medical graduates who had obtained permission to practice medicine in India without passing the obligatory Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE). As per the regulations, foreign medical graduates have to pass the FMGE and National Board of Examination (NBE) screening Test to be given provisional or permanent registration with the National Medical Commission or a state medical council in India. Sources informed that NBE sends the results of the Test to both candidates and councils.

The CBI has registered a case of suspected fraud, criminal collusion, falsification, and deception on the part of unidentified personnel of state medical councils, the former Medical Council of India, and 73 foreign medical graduates, the officials reported. This was due to the falsified qualifications certificates that were created by the applicants, which the medical councils could have verified from the results sent to them directly by the NBE.

The Union Health Ministry has expressed their concern to the CBI that those who are not certified to practice medicine engaging in fraudulent and falsified registration would be damaging to the health and welfare of citizens, and would have repercussions across state lines.
