A student union said on Friday that when students were admitted to the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) for the academic year 2021, the seats designated for OBC, SC, and ST categories were not filled.

The nation’s top film and television training facility was the target of a demonstration on campus by members of the Students Association of FTII over the “gross mockery of reservation.” On July 26, 2022, the FTII released its final merit list for the academic year 2021, according to a statement from the organisation. A student said that the admissions procedure finally happened after a year’s wait.

According to the association, “many seats, as well as waitlist slots in the OBC, SC, and ST categories, have not been filled, citing reasons of ineligibility.” Students held signs that read “Inequality in Admission,” “Resist Attack on Reservation,” “Discrimination,” and “Don’t Subvert Reservation” as they protested outside the FTII. According to the union, FTII officials informed them that a large number of candidates in the reserved category fell short of the required score. In response to a request for comment regarding the claims, the FTII director’s office remained silent.
