The National Testing Agency (NTA) declared the yearly assessment timetable for 2023-24 with the purpose of avoiding any delays or cancellations of national-level exams, similar to the situation this year. However, students have voiced their worries over the fact that the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE Main 2023) will take place in between the CBSE Class 10, 12 pre-board examinations and practical examinations.

In addition to asking the National Testing Agency (NTA) to delay the JEE Main 2022 session 1 that was planned to take place in January, students have also requested that the criteria of obtaining at least 75% marks in Class 12 exams to be eligible for the engineering entrance exams be eliminated. According to the JEE Main 2023 brochure, admission to BE, BTech, BArch, and BPlanning courses in NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs participating through the Central Seat Allocation Board will be based on all India rank, but SC and ST candidates only need to obtain 65% in Class 12 or in the corresponding qualifying examination.

Due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on education, the National Testing Agency (NTA) decided to temporarily lift certain requirements for applicants to the JEE Main 2022 exam. Many students have asked for the JEE Main 2023 examination to be held in April, due to the lack of preparation time for those who did not take exams in 2021. Registration for the January session of JEE Main 2023 is now open at jeemain.nta.nic.in.

After taking the requests into account, the NTA declared that the JEE Main 2023 exams will be held in two sessions – in January and April. However, some students have requested to delay the January JEE Mains 2023 exams to April as well. The CBSE will be administering the practical exams for Class 10 and 12 from January 1, 2023. Meanwhile, the Delhi pre-board exams are being held from December 15 to December 28, 2022.

The Central Board of Secondary Education recently declared that the CBSE Class 10 and 12 exams for 2023 will start on February 15th and released the corresponding marks for each subject. The board is likely to post the exam dates for the Class 10 and 12 exams on the CBSE website, cbse.gov.in, in the near future.

JEE Main 2023 in April

A lot of students have taken to Twitter to ask the Union education minister to push back the JEE Main 2023 exams from January to April for people who are repeating the exam and to reduce the 75% requirement. One student mentioned that the lack of time, particularly for those taking the exam again, is leading to feelings of despair and chaos among the test-takers.

It was stated by a student that for any exam conducted in India, the dates are usually announced three months in advance, yet this is not the case for the JEE Main. They were of the opinion that if the NTA is unable to handle this, then they should not be conducting the exam. Moreover, Hritvik Chaudhary suggested that all students who have scored less than 75% in their board exams and are planning to appear in the JEE Main 2023 should send their marksheets to him on Telegram, which he would then forward to Anubha Shrivastava Sahai, the President of India Wide Parents Association and a lawyer, who is collecting documents to take the matter to court.
