According to police, a 25-year-old auto-rickshaw driver was detained in south Delhi’s Saket neighbourhood on suspicion of abusing a schoolgirl. According to them, Shahrukh, the accused, frequently drove in the Ambedkar Nagar, Sangam Vihar, and Chirag areas of Delhi. The incident happened on September 30 at around 1:43 p.m., according to authorities. The girl rode an auto from her Saket school to Central Market in Lajpat Nagar to visit her mother. The driver of the vehicle mistreated her during the trip by making vulgar and inappropriate remarks to her. They even claimed that he inappropriately touched her. Near the Lajpat Nagar metro station, she somehow managed to get out of the car.
After thereafter, according to a senior police official, the car’s driver escaped. According to Chandan Chowdhary, deputy commissioner of police, a case has been filed at the Saket police station under sections 354 (Assault or use of criminal force to a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty) and 509 (Word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code and the pertinent section of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act (South).
Thousands of hours of CCTV material were obtained and examined during the inquiry. A raid was carried out at Trilokpuri using the registration number of the allegedly involved car as well, but the accused was not discovered to be residing there, the witness claimed. However, based on the pertinent information, the team set a trap near the Khanpur traffic signal on October 11 at around 5.30 pm. The claimed auto was seen travelling from the Badarpur side towards Khanpur. The car’s driver accelerated and made an attempt to elude the signal to stop. He was, however, spotted and defeated, she continued. According to authorities, the vehicle used in the alleged crime has been seized and the accused car driver has been detained.
