Following a sharp increase in childhood flu-like illnesses, the Puducherry government announced the closure of all public schools for pupils in grades 1 through 7, starting on Saturday and lasting through September 25. The circular for government-run and private schools in the areas of Puducherry and Karaikal was issued by the Joint Director of Education, V. G. Sivagami. Based on the Health Department’s proposal to close the schools, the Department of School Education made its decision.

Youngsters’ fever cases have increased by at least 50% over the past 10 days, and more children are visiting hospitals, according to a Health Department spokesperson who talked to PTI. The spokeswoman added that a huge number of kids with complaints of fever, cough, and cold have been admitted to the government-run Rajiv Gandhi Women and Child Hospital.
