The guidelines for the Odisha Civil Service Examination (OCSE) were changed by the state cabinet on Friday. According to the Chief Secretary, Suresh Chandra Mohapatra, the number of tries has grown for all categories while the overall score has decreased for the Odisha Civil Service exam. The decision was made after carefully reviewing a number of problems brought up periodically, such as eligibility, curriculum, scheme, and OCSE pattern, he added.
According to an official statement, the Odisha government decided to amend the existing provision of the OCSE (Combined Competitive Recruitment Exam) rules 1991 in order to lessen the burden on civil service aspirants who are preparing for both the Odisha Civil Service exam and the CSE exam administered by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) because the exam pattern and syllabus are different for both the exam. In accordance with the new regulations, the previous marking scheme of 2,250 marks has been decreased to 2,000 marks. There are currently 250 points overall for both Odia and English. Both of the language exams were previously graded out of 300 points.
The state has also suggested reducing the number of attempts because applicants will need some time to get used to changes in the exam format. Unreserved applicants for the civil service will get six chances instead of the current four. Candidates from the other socially and educationally disadvantaged classes will have nine chances instead of the previous seven. For candidates in the SC and ST categories, there is no upper age limit.
