The development of “click chemistry and bioorthogonal chemistry” earned Carolyn R. Bertozzi, Morten Meldal, and K. Barry Sharpless, this year’s shared Nobel Prize in Chemistry, Their work is utilised to develop cancer treatments, map DNA, and develop materials with a particular function in mind. Barry Sharpless recently joined a select group of five people who have won two Nobel Prizes. He follows in the footsteps of Frederick Sanger, Linus Pauling, Marie Sklodowska Curie, John Bardeen, and other double Nobel laureates. The chemistry prize was given to Sharpless in 2001 and 2022, according to the official Twitter account.

A functional branch of chemistry known as “click chemistry,” in which molecular building pieces fit together rapidly and precisely, was established by Barry Sharpless and Morten Meldal. According to the website, Carolyn Bertozzi has advanced click chemistry and begun applying it to living things. Hans Ellegren, secretary general of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences revealed the winners on Wednesday at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. Monday marked the beginning of a week of Nobel Prize announcements, with the prize in medicine going to a researcher who deciphered Neanderthal DNA.

The discovery that small particles may maintain a connection with one another even after being separated earned three scientists the Nobel Prize in physics on Tuesday. On Wednesday, they continue with chemistry, and on Thursday, they study literature. The economics prize will be awarded on October 10, while the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize will be announced on Friday.
