A NEET candidate, age 18, who had been diagnosed with hepatic encephalopathy, died while being treated at a nearby private hospital, according to a report from an official on Saturday. The victim, Vaibhav Roy, was one of 36 students from the Jawahar Nagar area who have recently fallen ill. 18 of them have fully recovered, and the other 11 are being treated at three private hospitals. Hepatic encephalopathy, a brain system dysfunction brought on by severe liver disease, can occur. The CMHO for Kota, Dr. Jagdish Soni, revealed to PTI that it was discovered that three local water suppliers were providing coaching facilities, hostels, and canteens with tainted drinking water. However, he claimed that an ongoing audit of deaths will determine Roy’s precise cause of death.
Roy was a native of West Bengal, although he had been residing in Kaithun town with his family for a while. Roy was taken to the hospital on October 5 with fever and jaundice, according to Roy’s doctor, Dr. Rajiv Sharma. However, a few days later, he was found to have hepatic encephalopathy.
He had a serious brain swelling that led to his death on Thursday, according to Dr. Sharma. Recently, tests on 35 additional students revealed they had hepatitis-A. After that, at least 65 samples of water from various sources were collected by a team from the health department, according to Dr. Soni, who also noted that three water providers were discovered to be supplying coaching institutes, dormitories, and canteens among other places with tainted water. The majority of these students are admitted to S N Pareek Memorial and Multi-specialty Hospital, where Dr. K K Pareek of the hospital revealed that “at least 10 to 12 coaching students are getting treated for hepatitis-A for over a week.”
The patients’ liver enzyme levels were discovered to be frighteningly high, but he added that all of them were improving. “The illness is most likely to have been caused by contaminated water and food,” he said. The CMHO has been instructed to investigate the incident, according to Kota (city) Additional District Magistrate Brij Mohan Bairwa, and a report from him is anticipated.
