State Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang said on Tuesday that all medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh would celebrate the Diwali festival of Dhanteras with the worship of God Dhanvantari (Lord of Health). Notably, the MBBS coursebook’s Hindi translation was introduced on Sunday in Madhya Pradesh. According to Sarang, Dhanteras will be formally observed in the state’s medical colleges akin to the Ganpati festival. According to him, holding Dhanvantari puja in medical colleges aims to create a healthy state in MP.
“We offer up prayers for both our own and other people’s health by praising Bhagwan Dhanvantari. All medical institutions in the state will host a programme to honour God Dhanvantari on Dhanteras, which falls on October 22 this year. Everyone will participate in the prayer for universal health, including physicians, students, and caregivers for patients, Sarang told reporters. According to Hindu teachings, Bhagwan Dhanvantari is an avatar of Lord Vishnu, he claimed. According to Sarang, medical colleges would annually observe Dhanteras with the same pomp and ceremony as the Ganpati celebration.
Three first-year MBBS textbooks were published in Hindi for the first time on Sunday by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The introduction was a component of a large-scale initiative by the Madhya Pradesh government to provide medical education in Hindi. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the chief minister, had joked that doctors should write ‘Shri Hari’ on prescription slips instead of the Latin-derived symbol Rx, and then write the list of medications and other information in Hindi.
