The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee Development Foundation (IITRDF) has recently joined forces with Shah Paper Mills Limited to create a research laboratory and a skill development training program which will be used to advance the field of packaging research. The goal of this partnership is to bring innovation and skill building to the public, as well as aiding the IITRDF in connecting industry and academia to foster research and development based on the needs of the industry with the help of the IIT Roorkee staff.
On December 15, 2022, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) agreement was signed at IIT Roorkee in the presence of several representatives, including Pritesh Shah, joint managing director of Shah Paper Mills Limited; Kanu Mehra, representative of Gujarat Paper Mill Association; Shreyas Bahety, executive director of Shah Paper Mills; KK Pant, Akshay Dvivedi, Bhola Ram Gurjar, and Manish Shrihande, board of directors of IITRDF; and Santosh Kumar (chief executive officer), Sanjay Palsule (acting dean Saharanpur campus), Dharm Dutt (head of paper technology), and Millie Pant from the DORA office.
The Government of India has mandated that Shah Paper Mills and IIT Roorkee team up to help young people find employment by providing them with training and the opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities. KK Pant, director of IIT Roorkee, remarked on the initiative: “IITRDF will act as a liaison between the Institute and donors. Our partnership with Shah Paper Mills is the second of its kind. The Joint Managing Director of the company has expressed a strong commitment to sustainability, circular economy, and environmental protection. With IITRDF serving as the partnership arm of IITR, we hope to create and uphold more such partnerships in line with global Corporate Social Responsibility goals.”
Pritesh Shah, Joint Managing Director of Shah Paper Mills Limited, expressed his pleasure in the agreement and said that the company is committed to Corporate Social Responsibility. He stated that the initiative will be favorable for the region due to the increased potential of the paper and pulp industries to employ young people. Shah Paper Mills is eager to collaborate with IITRDF to explore new possibilities and further strengthen the partnership. The collaboration with IIT Roorkee will enable industries to resolve technical issues through the help of students and faculty members acclaimed for their technical knowledge in India.
