IIM Jammu and the University of Ladakh have come to an understanding where they will cooperate in areas such as faculty exchange, joint research and other matters of mutual benefit. As a result, IIMJ has agreed to set up an off-campus transit facility at the University of Ladakh.
The document was formalized by IIM Jammu director BS Sahay and University of Ladakh vice-chancellor SK Mehta, with the presence of Jabir Ali (IIM Jammu dean of academics), Ashok Sharma (Registrar), Jigmet Stobdan (assistant professor of commerce) and Amjad Ali Abbasi (University of Ladakh principal).
This agreement will aid IIM Jammu and University of Ladakh in establishing faculty and student exchange, joining forces to conduct workshops, sports events, interactive meetings, and brief educational programs to advance research and explore the possibilities of shared sports carnivals, as well as providing internship opportunities for both institutions’ students.
Furthermore, the two institutes will work together to provide courses and issue qualifications in their combined areas of focus, encourage collaborative research in interdisciplinary topics, and share information related to their educational and research projects, such as teaching resources and other literature.
Following the signing of the MoU, a group photo session, lunch, and a visit to IIM Jammu’s permanent campus at Jagti were undertaken by the delegates from the University of Ladakh. Previously, students and faculty from the University of Ladakh had visited IIM Jammu’s transit Canal Road Campus on December 12th for a combined study and exposure visit.
At the event, IIM Jammu’s director BS Saha remarked that it is a major milestone for the institute, as the University of Ladakh has agreed to offer space for the launch of the Transit Off-Campus in Leh. Both the institutes have come together to work on multiple aspects including academic growth, entrepreneurship, executive training, skill development, research, boot camps, conferences, and short-term education programs. This collaboration will reap fruitful results for the stakeholders in Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh and foster sustainable growth.
SK Mehta, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ladakh, spoke on the occasion and remarked that the collaboration with IIM Jammu would aid them in many areas, including educational and training program development, long-term planning, entrepreneurship growth, increased exposure for faculty and students, and institution-wide growth. He further added that the partnership between the two renowned institutions would enhance the research output of the University of Ladakh, allowing for the exchange of synergies between them.
