IIT Roorkee will be hosting Startup Expo 2022, with four startups being awarded the Best Startup accolade.

To celebrate its 175th anniversary, IIT Roorkee held a Startup Expo 2022 recently. Students, academics, budding entrepreneurs, and over 100 industry stakeholders attended the event.

IIT Roorkee has established an environment that has nurtured the growth of over 125 startups. This includes not only students, but faculty members and people outside the institute, according to the institute’s statement.

At the Startup Expo, fifty businesses demonstrated their inventions and advances in the areas of AI-ML, Drone Technology, Robotics, Health Sciences, Agriculture, Environmental Protection, Energy Industry, and E-commerce.

The event was designed with a security-focused idea in mind. The aim was to provide a platform for interaction between the organizers and different individuals involved, thus fostering an active entrepreneurial atmosphere.

At the Startup Expo, kiosks displaying commemorative stamps and coins that were issued for the 175th anniversary were also displayed.

Kailash Kumar Pathak, director of DFTM DRDO, Colonel Virbhadra Singh Rawat, the Defense Coordinator for the Uttarakhand government, and Shambhu Sharma, Head of Operations for OPTEL, officially opened the event in the presence of other respected guests.

At the occasion, four startups from different sectors won the Best Startup award. The champions were Indigenous Energy Pvt. Ltd., Cypher, Ballice Smart Devices, and Super Good Nano Pvt. Ltd. A few of the noteworthy startups that took part in the Startup Expo 2022 include:

  • RavenEye Geospatial Tech Limited: IIT researchers set up a new company, RAVENEYE GEOSPATIAL PVT LTD, under TIDES, IIT Roorkee (Startup India Program by Government of India). The goal was to reduce the dominance of foreign companies in India’s geospatial market, making India self-sufficient in this field. The company prepared drones, with the help of which the farmer can spray chemicals uniformly on the crop at a low cost, which will save both the time and cost of the farmer.
  • DTown Robotics Private Ltd.: It is a deep tech startup based in Uttarakhand, India. The company works on designing and developing unmanned aerial/ ground solutions for Defence and Agricultural applications. It also works on the development of customized robotics and drone solutions, including hardware, software, and analytics solutions. They aim to provide advanced technologies to people who are serving the nation 24X7.
  • Indi Energy: Indi Energy is an energy storage startup from IIT Roorkee with years of experience developing energy storage technologies like Sodium-ion batteries, Solid-state batteries, etc. The startup works for developing and commercializing Sodium ion (Na-ion) batteries and the technology of its content.
  • Perovskite Innovations Pvt. Ltd: The startup develops perovskite materials based next generation X-ray detectors for X-ray imaging. It also focuses on making buildings energy efficient by integrating transparent solar photovoltaic panels into the building fabric using transparent perovskite solar cells.

The institute also hosted an event in which Jagdish Neduri, Chaudhary Mohammad Tariq, and Gajanan Gitte all pitched their ideas for starting new businesses. The jury at the event noted Pahul Singh Sawhney’s and Kunal Shah’s ideas to be the most promising and offered them pre-incubation aid at IIT Roorkee’s Tinkering Lab.

A forum was held to explore how High Tech and deep-tech technologies can be utilized to bolster the nation’s startup landscape, with the intention of bringing Indian technologies to the worldwide stage in order to fulfill the promise of Atmanirbhar Bharat, according to IIT Roorkee.
