In Kolkata, India, on July 17, 2022, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee held an alumni outreach event as part of the 175th-anniversary celebrations that began on November 25, 2021. The occasion was attended by alumni, their families, and retired IIT Roorkee faculty members. The 175th-anniversary celebrations at IIT Roorkee are expected to last through November 24, 2022. Numerous academic, cultural, sporting, and outreach events are being planned as part of the festivities by students, teachers, staff, and alumni.
This was the third time in a row that IIT Roorkee has performed zonal outreach activities, according to a statement from the institute. IIT Roorkee wants to expand the festival to more cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore. The occasion was attended by Padmashri Harshavardhan Neotia, chairman of the Ambuja Neotia Group. IIT Roorkee director Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi presented a memento to senior graduates in Kolkata who had graduated 50 years prior.
“In our 175th year, this is the third outreach initiative aimed at teaching students, alumni, and staff the value of a close-knit affiliation. Teachers and seniors who came before us set the road for the current minds to ascend to the top throughout history. The purpose of the event is to provide a forum for all of the network’s graduates to interact with their alma mater and alumni who are both senior and junior to them, according to Chaturvedi.
IIT Roorkee opened its doors in 1847. Originally known as The Roorkee Institution, it was the first engineering college in the British Empire. It was established as India’s first engineering university in November 1949, following the country’s independence. A bill in the parliament was passed on September 21, 2001, designating the university as an institution of national importance and renaming it the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee.
