On Sunday, the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras hosted an event called ‘Sports 4 All’ to promote knowledge and participation in sports and games among people with disabilities in honor of the International Day for Persons with Disabilities (December 3rd).
At the event, hosted by IIT Madras, people from all over the nation joined in, among them being 255 care givers, members of the public, and volunteers. The intention was to introduce sports and games to those with disabilities, present advanced aids for sports and games, and put emphasis on sports.
Professor V Kamakoti, the Director of IIT Madras, stated in a press release that inclusion is a key part of the 2030 sustainable development goals. Unfortunately, people with disabilities are being left behind globally due to a lack of access to new solutions.
He pointed out that inclusive gross motor activities and sports give people with disabilities the chance to partake in fitness activities, which can benefit their physical and mental health. The event is organized by the National Institute for Persons with Multiple Disabilities, IIT Madras Research Park, Global Sports Mentoring Programme, initiated by the U S Department of State and the University of Tennessee and Decathlon.
