VMware, an IT firm, will be providing assistance to Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) in establishing a Computing Systems Education and Research Lab (CSERL) for the purpose of facilitating computing systems research and education.

IIT Bombay’s CSERL has been awarded a grant of USD 240,000 (Rs 1.97 crore) from the VMware University Research Fund (VMURF). This grant is to help further research in foundational technologies, such as modern enterprise systems, computer/network/storage/security, multi-cloud, mobile systems, edge, modern applications, and data. Additionally, it will also serve to investigate applied technologies, like blockchain, 5G, and 6G.

The platform will be concentrating on forming educational courses and material with systems specialisation, and will also be carrying out outreach initiatives such as yearly workshops, winter and summer schools. In addition to this, it will also be forming an ideal organisational structure at the center to speed up systems research and translate the capabilities in advanced systems research practice in India.

VMware, located in Palo Alto, California, is dedicated to the advancement of computing systems and has been working in conjunction with IIT Bombay on research since 2017. They have provided USD 275,000 in funding through VMURF, according to a statement. The company provides multi-cloud services for all applications.

CSERL’s objective is to engage in cutting-edge Computing Systems research, create academic courses and materials, and create opportunities for learning and collaboration with the goal of enhancing research, academia, and industry.
