Since 2020, UPSC aspirants have been calling for additional attempts in the IAS exam of 2023, but their requests have been met with no avail. Consequently, they have resolved to stage a demonstration on December 19, as stated in a report.

Due to the limitations of the COVID-19 lockdown and testing positive for coronavirus, many students were unable to take the UPSC CSE exam in 2020 and 2021. In response, these students asked the government and commission for an additional opportunity to participate in the next IAS exam.

In March of this year, some aspirants who were unable to take the UPSC civil services main exam due to the COVID-19 pandemic filed a petition with the Supreme Court to be granted an extra attempt. However, the Centre responded to the SC stating that it was not possible to provide additional attempts for these individuals.

Recently, applicants have decided to petition the Supreme Court to ask for an additional attempt and age limit expansion. In July, Union minister Jitendra Singh informed the Lok Sabha that the age relaxation request was taken into consideration after the Supreme Court ruling, but “it was not possible to adjust the present provisions concerning the Civil Services exam in terms of the number of attempts and age limit”.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) recommended 748 candidates based on their results in the 2021 Civil Services Examination (CSE). However, 91 of these candidates were not assigned to any service, as stated by Singh in the winter session of the Lok Sabha.

Recently, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) announced the UPSC Civil Services Mains Examination 2022. Every year, the UPSC exam is held to select eligible candidates for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and other positions.

The Lok Sabha was informed through a written response that there are currently 1,472 vacancies for Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, 864 for Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, and 1,057 for Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officers. Additionally, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) recently declared the UPSC Civil Services Exam 2022.
