Pinarayi Vijayan, the chief minister of Kerala, asserted on Tuesday that the governor’s order requiring the resignation of Kerala University’s senate members was illegal. The CM asserted that when deciding on the individuals Khan had selected, the Chancellor ought to have taken the concept of natural justice into account.

“He didn’t act in a way that was permitted by the law. The legislation does not allow him the right to dismiss some of the ex-officio senators, “At a press conference held here in the evening, Vijayan added. Vijayan said that the Chancellor ought to take a position in favour of the universities’ healthy development.

Khan had ordered the dismissal of 15 members of the Kerala University Senate in his capacity as Chancellor of the state’s universities. According to insiders at the Raj Bhavan, Khan took the measure after repeatedly ordering senators to meet and nominate a candidate for the selection committee. The Vice-Chancellor was to be chosen by the selection committee.
