For JEE Main 2023, the National Testing Agency (NTA) will be implementing different marking schemes for the BTech, BArch, and BPlanning papers.

The NTA is ready to manage the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) session 1 exam in January 2023. The exam is booked to take place on the 24th, 25th, 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th and 31st. The admit card for the JEE Main session 1 examination will be accessible soon on the website jeemain.nta.nic.in. Candidates can retrieve their admit card by signing in with their application number, date of birth and password.

The NTA has released a brochure providing an outline of the JEE Main 2023 marking system for Papers 1 (BE, BTech), 2A (BArch) and 2B (BPlanning). Candidates can find the full details of the JEE Main 2023 marking scheme here.

The JEE Main 2023 marking scheme for MCQs will be the following:

  • For the correct answer or the most appropriate answer, candidates will be awarded four marks (+4).
  • For an incorrect answer, there is a penalty of minus one mark (-1).
  • In case a question is left unanswered or marked for review, no mark (0) will be given.
  • In case, more than one option is found to be correct then four marks (+4) will be awarded to only those who have marked any of the correct options.
  • Also, Four marks (+4) will be awarded to all those who have attempted the question in which all options are found to be correct.
  • If none of the options is found correct or a question is found to be wrong or a question is dropped then full marks will be awarded to all candidates who have appeared irrespective of the fact whether the question has been attempted or not attempted by the candidate.

JEE Main 2023 marking scheme for questions for which the answer is a Numerical value will be the following:

  • Candidates will be awarded four marks (+4) for each correct answer.
  • One mark (-1) will be deducted for each wrong answer.
  • No mark (0) will be awarded in case a question is left unanswered or marked for review.
  • Four (+4) marks will be awarded to those who answer a question that is incorrect or dropped. The reason could be due to human error or technical error.
  • The candidates are advised to use the constants provided (if any) in the questions to do the calculations. The answer should be rounded off to the nearest integer.

In JEE Main Paper 1-BE, BTech, there are two sections for each subject (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry) consisting of 90 questions with a total of 300 marks. Section A consists of 60 multiple choice questions and Section B includes 30 questions for which the answers should be entered numerically. Engineering candidates must answer 5 out of 10 questions, and both Section A and Section B will have negative marking.

For JEE Main Paper 2A- BArch, only parts 1 (Mathematics) and 2 (Aptitude Test) will be computer-based, whereas part 3 (Drawing test) will be conducted through a pen and paper format. This section will ask a total of 82 questions for a total of 400 marks. According to the JEE Main 2023 information brochure, the questions will include 20 MCQs and 5 numerical values that need to be filled in. Both Section A and B will have negative marking.

For JEE Main Paper 2B- BPlanning, the exam will be conducted in the form of a computer-based test (CBT). This section will consist of three parts – part 1 (mathematics), part 2 (aptitude test) and part 3 (planning based) – with a total of 105 questions to be answered out of 400 marks. The marking scheme for Paper 2B is identical to that of Paper 2A.
