At the first job fair hosted in person since the pandemic began, the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) experienced a surge in international offers to their students, some of them receiving annual salaries over Rs 1 crore.
This year at IIT Madras, more than 25 students have been offered salaries of over Rs 1 crore annually. The number of pre-placement offers is also the highest it has ever been, which is approximately 10% more than the 407 from last year.
TB Ramkamal, Student Academic Affairs Secretary at IIT Madras, reported that the transition back to an in-person placement system was met with great enthusiasm by both students and employers. He hoped that the new hybrid approach would strengthen the student-employer relationship and lead to an increase in successful placements.
Texas Instruments led the way with 14 offers to students of IIT Madras, followed by Bajaj Auto Ltd and Chetak Tech Ltd with 10 offers, and Qualcomm with 8 offers. J P Morgan Chase and Co made 9 offers, Proctor and Gamble contributed 7, Morgan Stanley had 6, Graviton and McKinsey & Company 5 offers each, and Cohesity made 5 offers. On Friday, IIT Guwahati also started its placement process; across a range of job profiles, including Software Development Engineering, Data Science, Quant, Core Engineer, UX Designer, VLSI, Vehicle Engineering, Analyst, and Product Designer, a total of 290 offers were made by 84 companies.
So far, at least five students of IIT Guwahati have received job offers with a salary package of Rs 1 crore and two international offers. Popular recruiters of the institute include Microsoft, Texas Instruments, Google, Uber, Qualcomm, C-DOT, Enphase Energy, Oracle, Nutanix, Thoughtspot MTS-2, Squarepoint SDE/Quant, American Express, JP Morgan Chase, Bajaj, Rippling, Tibra, Cohesity, and Sprinklr Platform + Product.
Abhishek Kumar, the head of the Center for Career Development at IIT Guwahati, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming face-to-face meetings between companies and students after two years of pandemic-induced separation. These meetings offer a unique opportunity for employers and potential employees to have in-depth conversations, providing both sides with more insight.
One student from IIT Roorkee has been offered an international position with a salary of Rs 1.06 crore, and another has been given a domestic job with a package of Rs 1.30 crore. Additionally, at least ten other students have obtained an offer with a remuneration of Rs 80 lakhs.
The IIT Roorkee official stated that they had partnered with leading businesses in numerous industries and put a lot of effort into developing the core competencies of their students. In addition, they diversified the range of student profiles, which resulted in more job opportunities in the corresponding areas of interest.
