At first, exercise books and almanacs containing quotes from APJ Abdul Kalam and Mahatma Gandhi will be given out gratis to children in classes 1 through 8 in all government schools in Bihar. According to Dipak Kumar Singh, assistant chief secretary (ACS) of the state education department, the action is one of the steps the government is taking to raise academic standards in the state.
He stated that exercise books will be supplied to kids in classes 1 through 8 for free for the first time. Teachers will also be given diaries to record student performances and other activities. They will also receive almanacks containing pertinent information, such as social reform activities of the state government and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and APJ Abdul Kalam. According to Singh, “Teachers, too, will be getting diaries to record day-to-day progress reports.” He added that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made the decision after consulting with representatives from the education department. In the past, government school students simply received textbooks. When asked if there were finances available for the new programme, Singh responded that the government’s allocation for education had “remarkably grown.”
“Our government is devoted to raising Bihar’s educational standards. Any educational expense is viewed as an investment. According to the ACS, out of the total Rs 12,959 crore spent in 2020–21, Rs 6,054 crore (46.7%) went toward primary education and the remaining Rs 52.6% went toward secondary and higher education. Speaking of the almanacks, he stated that “Bapu’s” and Kalam’s teachings have inspired us all up till this point. These lessons can be useful for kids. Additionally, the government of Bihar’s social reform measures would also be included in the encyclopaedias, according to Singh.
The overall number of primary and upper primary schools in Bihar increased from 72,981 in 2016–17 to 75,295 in 2019–20, according to the Bihar Economic Survey (2021–22). “There are 32,887 upper primary schools and 42,408 elementary schools total. In terms of the number of schools, the three best-performing districts in 2019–20 were Patna (4,002), East Champaran (3,852), and Muzaffarpur (3,201). Sheohar (425), Arwal (555), and Sheikhpura (581), three districts, had the fewest schools “added the survey report.
