The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) said on Friday that, in spite of its directives, some children who fall under the category of the economically weaker segment (EWS) were not admitted to private schools in Delhi. The NCPCR requested information about EWS admissions in private schools starting with the 2020–21 school year in a letter to the Delhi chief secretary. The officers and branches responsible for securing the admission of the applicants under the EWS-DG and CWSN categories have received tight instructions, but it has been seen that they have not yet granted admission to these candidates.

“Subsequently, you are requested to provide details of the following for academic years 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23: Year-wise vacancy for EWS-DG category candidates, seats allotted against the vacancy, and a total number of children admitted against the seats allotted in private schools of Delhi,” it said.

The commission also inquired as to the number of open seats in the relevant year following the admission of children in excess of the allowed number. The NCPCR wrote to the Delhi chief secretary, “The necessary answer with given details may kindly be provided in the Commission within seven days of receipt of this letter.”
