According to officials, the Delhi government has released new promotion policies for students in classes 5 and 8 as well as new examination criteria for classes 3 through 8, which will be put into effect starting with the 2023–24 academic year. According to the new assessment rules, kids in classes 5 and 8 who “do not pass” the annual exam “will not be advanced to the next class,” according to Delhi government authorities. The Directorate of Education (DoE) issued the new evaluation and promotion rules for all government, local authorities, and private schools in Delhi on Friday. These guidelines were created by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) Delhi.
The guidelines state that co-curricular activities as well as midterm and annual exams will be used to evaluate the learning of students in classes 5 and 8. Project-based activities, portfolios, classroom participation, involvement in extracurricular activities including theatre, dance, music, and sports, as well as child attendance, are all examples of co-curricular activities.
If a child is unable to pass class 5 or 8, he or she will have another opportunity to enhance the performance by re-examination within two months, according to SCERT’s revised evaluation rules. “Until elementary school is finished, no child may be expelled from school. At the conclusion of each academic year, classes 5 and 8 will take a standard examination “The rules stated. Additionally, it said that classes 3, 4, 6, and 7 would be evaluated using the same test format as classes 5 and 8. Classes 3, 4, 6, and 7 pupils won’t be held back in the same class.
For classes 5 and 8, in order to be declared “Pass” at the end of the session for promotion to the next higher class, a student must secure at least 33 per cent marks in each subject during the session, according to the guidelines.
The criteria stated that earning at least 25% of the possible points in both the midterm and yearly exams was a requirement for promotion to the next higher class. It also stated that in order to be declared “Pass” in re-examination, a student must receive at least 25% of the possible points in the subject(s). If a student does not receive at least 25% of the possible points, they will be placed in the “essential repeat” category, which means they will be held back in the same class for the following session.
“The “no detention policy” was extremely advanced, but the education system was not ready to fully benefit from it. But in order to create a solid basis at the elementary level, we must prepare such a system “Manish Sisodia, the deputy chief minister, remarked. He continued by saying that SCERT, Delhi has released new evaluation criteria with the “holistic development of children” in mind. “Our intention is not to prevent any student from being promoted to the next level by means of these rules. Our true goal is to make elementary school work as serious as class X and class XII work “Added the deputy chief minister.
Beginning with the academic year 2023–2024, the policies will be applied to all government-run, government-aided, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Corporation, Delhi Cantonment Board, and authorised unaided schools in the NCT of Delhi.
