The School of Journalism and New Media Studies (SOJNMS) of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has introduced a PG Diploma in Electronic Media through Open and Distance Learning. According to the institute, the new programme was started in order to deliver skill-based programmes and incorporate recommendations from the National Education Policy 2020 into academic endeavours.
The program’s length will be a minimum of one year and a maximum of three years for the PG Diploma in Electronic Media. English will be used as the program’s primary language of teaching. However, students have the option of writing their exams, homework, practicals, and projects in Hindi as well.
The IGNOU Post Graduate Diploma in Electronic Media programme costs Rs 9,500. Nageshwar Rao, vice chancellor of IGNOU, and the other guests introduced the hybrid programme. At the ceremony, Padma Shri Professor Pushpesh Pant and Subhash Dhuliya, the former vice chancellor of Uttarakhand Open University, spoke about the need for additional skill-based mass communication programmes like those envisioned by the NEP 2020. They also provide light on the evolving media landscape’s dynamics and the demand for training in the creation of audio and audio-visual material for news and other genres.
Director of SOJNMS KS Arul Selvam gave the opening remarks. OP Deval, SOJNMS, gave the participants a quick tour of the school, and Amit Kumar, the programme coordinator, gave a description of the programme. Any candidate with a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline is invited to apply for the programme, he said. Nageshwar Rao, vice chancellor of IGNOU, stressed the need for such skill-based programmes in the fields of journalism and mass communication during his address to the university’s president.
