The 27% Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation in All India Quota (AIQ) seats of state agricultural universities will be implemented, according to the All India OBC Students’ Association (AIOBCSA), which has urged Narendra Singh Tomar, Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, to take the necessary steps. The OBC students’ body wrote to the minister stating that the OBC quota had not been implemented under the AlQ and was being filled through the UG, PG, and PhD levels of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research All India Entrance Examination (ICAR AIEEA) in state agricultural colleges.

“In both central and state agricultural education institutes under the All India Quota, 15% and 7.5% of seats are reserved for SC and ST applicants under AIQ seats in agriculture and associated courses. However, only central agricultural colleges are allowed to offer OBC candidates reservations in these programmes under the All India Quota. According to the ICAR AIEEA UG/PG/PhD Admission reservation rule, the OBC quota is not applicable to All India Quota seats at State Agricultural Universities (SAU) under the ICAR-AU system “the letter is read.

The student body noted that every year, the lack of OBC reservations in SAUs results in the loss of almost 27% of seats in the AlQ for OBC candidates. Recently, the national government made history by deciding to grant 27% OBC reservation in the AlQ scheme for undergraduate and graduate medical and dental programmes. As a result, OBC students from all over the nation can now fight for seats in any state by taking use of this reservation in the AIQ Scheme. “We want the Government of India to Implement the 27% OBC reservation in All India Quota seats of both central and state agricultural educational institutions in agriculture and associated courses to achieve equality and social justice,” it continued.

In order to execute the 27% OBC reservation in AIQ seats of both Central and State Agricultural Institutions in agriculture and associated disciplines, AIOBCSA formally requested in a letter to the Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare that he take the appropriate steps.
