On Saturday, police reported that a faculty member of the Mathematics department at the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT-G) was discovered to have committed suicide by hanging in his residence on campus.
Samir Kalam was announced deceased in the morning in his living space according to the institute’s announcement. An internal inquiry will be conducted by the institute and they will work alongside the police’s investigation.
IIT Guwahati is attempting to reach out to the relatives of the deceased and extend their deepest sympathies to the family during this period of deep sorrow, the announcement stated.
The institute notified law enforcement, who arrived at the scene and began an inquiry. Early examination appears to be a case of suicide, but all possibilities are being looked into, a police officer stated.
