A request has been submitted to the Bombay High Court requesting a delay of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main 2023) January session because certain boards have their Class 12 pre-board exams scheduled for next month. Furthermore, the complaint has questioned the 75% requirement to qualify for JEE Main 2023, according to Bar and Bench.

On Monday, Anubha Srivastava Sahai, an activist, submitted a petition. Many students on Twitter asked for the JEE Mains 2023 to be delayed and the 75% criterion to be eliminated for those who had taken a break from their studies. The NTA declared the JEE Main exam dates for 2023 on December 15, which will be conducted across two phases in January and April. In light of the short preparation time, the students have been asking for the postponement of JEE Main 2023.

The PIL claimed that the requirement for 75% in Class 12 or its equivalent for JEE 2023 will adversely affect many students who may have achieved excellent scores in JEE mains but not gotten the requisite marks in their board exams. The National Testing Agency had eliminated this criterion for the JEE Main last year as a result of the educational disruption caused by the COVID-19 crisis.

The PIL noted that the pre-board exams, as well as the viva voce of CBSE, ICSE and other state boards, are due to take place in January. It warned that the clash between JEE Main 2023 and the pre-board exams would lead to fewer students taking part in the January 2023 session of the exam. The petition also noted that in the past, the NTA used to announce the IIT JEE Main 2023 exam dates two to three months before the exam, but that such short notice would not give sufficient time for preparation.
