42 instructors from JU, according to a spokeswoman, have been recognized by Stanford University as among the top 2% of scientists in the world for their research papers. In terms of research paper citations and H-index among the 3,796 scientist-researchers included in the list published by Stanford University, the spokesman claimed that Jadavpur University led all Indian universities.
The productivity and citation effect of the publications are measured by the author-level indicator known as the H-index. According to the number of top scientists and researchers, only IISC, Bengaluru, and six IITs, including IIT Kharagpur, were ranked before the JU, the official added.
Vice-Chancellor of Jadavpur University Prof. Suranjan Das told PTI that it gives him great joy that his university has the most professors who are also scientists out of all Indian universities, and that his colleagues’ ongoing pursuit of excellence in scientific research is the reason for this. Das thanked the West Bengal government for providing JU with the funding it needs to continue providing high-calibre education, adding, “We would like if the fund allocation is raised to the extent possible to support our activities.” In addition, he said, “We would like the Center to fund JU because we have maintained such high standards while lacking proper facilities.
“This was a matter of pride for JU and showed the excellence in scientific and technological research of the state university consistently seen in the past several years despite dwindling financial help from both Center and state,” said Partha Pratim Roy, general secretary of the Jadavpur University Teachers’ Association, to PTI. The top 2% of scientists worldwide were included in the database of top-cited scientists based on percentile score and research publications up until the end of 2021. 22 fields and 176 subfields make up the classification of scientists. For each scientist with at least five publications, percentiles related to their discipline and subfield are also given.
