On Teachers’ Day in 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that the Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) Yojana would upgrade and develop 14,500 schools throughout India. Today, PM Modi spoke at the Teachers’ Day 2022 event with the recipients of the National Awards for Teachers. Today, on #TeachersDay, I’m happy to launch a new initiative: the Pradhan Mantri Schools For Rising India (PM-SHRI) Yojana, which will establish and upgrade 14,500 schools throughout India. According to PM Modi’s tweet, these will develop into model institutions that fully embody the NEP.
He stated, “The PM-SHRI schools would feature a modern, transformative, and holistic manner of providing education,” when describing the layout of these institutions. Emphasis will be on a discovery-oriented, learner-centric manner of teaching. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has reportedly changed the educational landscape in recent years. According to PM Modi, the focus will also be on modern infrastructure, including the newest technology, smart classrooms, sports, and more. According to him, thousands of students across India will continue to benefit from PM-SHRI schools in the NEP spirit.
The pedagogy used in these schools will be more inquiry-driven, discovery-oriented, learner-centred, discussion-based, flexible, and entertaining. It will also be more experiential, holistic, and integrated. The achievement of competence in learning outcomes for every kid in every grade will be the main focus. According to a formal statement, assessments at all levels would be competency-based and focused on conceptual comprehension and applying the information to actual situations. Earlier in June, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stated that the government is preparing to establish “PM Shri Schools,” which will be used as a testing ground for the new National Education Policy (NEP).
