Admission to the program is determined solely on the basis of candidates’ master’s degree grades. Different universities or colleges, on the other hand, have different admissions policies.
For admission to a specific course, some universities conduct an entrance examination followed by a round of personal interviews, based on which students are shortlisted.
If you want to work on a wide range of Earth-related projects, such as environmental protection, oil exploration, mineral exploration, resource management, and so on, geology offers a variety of options.
Working as a geologist is thrilling. Geographers, geologists, oceanographers, meteorologists, and other geology graduates have a wide range of career options.
Most geologists work in a variety of settings, including universities, government agencies, and non-profit organizations. You can also work part-time in fieldwork if you want. Because geologists play such an important role in locating valuable minerals and natural resources, they are more likely to find rewarding jobs in both the private and public sectors.
The UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) holds various exams to hire ambitious Geologists in government agencies such as the GSI (Geological Survey of India) and the CGWB (Central Government Workforce Board) (Central Groundwater Board). Apart from that, organizations such as ONGC (Oil & Natural Gas Corporation), Coal India Limited, Hindustan Zinc Limited, MECL (Mineral Exploration Corporation Limited), and others are eager to hire geologists.
When it comes to a preferred choice in the Union Public Service Commission, geology also reigns supreme. Civil Services Examinations and the Union Public Service Commission’s Indian Forest Service Exam (CSE). You can also apply if you are a geologist who wants to work in the paramilitary or defense sector. You can also pursue academics and research as a career path by pursuing an M.Phil. or Ph.D. in Geology and then taking the UGC’s NET (National Education Test) (University Grants Commission).

A candidate with a Degree in Geology can bag the following roles in the industry –
A Geologist in the government sector earns a competitive salary and enjoys a prestigious position. Furthermore, companies such as Oil & Natural Gas Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, and others provide attractive benefits and comfortable living quarters to geologists.
Although salaries for geologists vary by company, they are generally high in the private sector and are based on the candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications. As a newcomer, Geology is the study of the Earth in which students learn about the Earth’s materials, how they’re made, and how processes affect them over time. Geologists are academics who are interested in the study of geology. Individuals with a doctorate degree from reputable institutes or universities can work in both domestic and international settings.
Individuals pursuing a PhD in Geology are trained and taught to:
A PhD takes about 5 years to complete.

Prior to beginning their Ph. D. program, students must have earned a bachelor’s degree and, in most cases, a master’s degree. For their Doctorate in Geology, students can specialize in areas such as climate modeling, hydrology, mineralogy, paleontology, seismology, and structural geology, among others.
USA, Lebanon, and Finland are some of the best countries to study geology.
Some of the jobs for Geologists are :
Environmental field technician.
Forester.
Environmental protection specialist.
High school science teacher.
Hydrographic surveyor.
GIS analyst.
Archaeologist.
Sustainability engineer.
Geologists study the Earth to learn about how it was formed and the structural changes that are currently taking place. As a result, they can forecast what will happen to the planet in the future. Bachelor’s degrees are the most common, but master’s and doctorate degrees are also available in the field.
Despite the downturn in the mineral resources sector, geologists have a bright long-term job outlook. The price of geological commodities such as fuels, metals, and construction materials affects demand in the field, which is cyclical.
A career in geology pays well, and there are many different career paths and job titles to choose from. Academics, government (USGS), environmental consulting, the oil and gas industry, and the mining industry are the most common careers for geologists. Geologists are seeing a lot of job growth.
Oil companies, environmental agencies, government agencies, universities and colleges, and research facilities employ the majority of geochemists.
