The institute functions as an autonomous body under the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry. NID is recognized by the Department Of Scientific Industrial And Research under, the government of India, as a scientific and industrial design research organization.
National Institute of Design offers admissions to aspirants in Bachelor of Design, Graduate Diploma Programme in Design as well as Master of Design programs on the basis of their performance in the NID Design Aptitude Test. In order to secure admission to design programs offered at the National Institute of Design aspirants need to take part in NID DAT (Prelims) and NID DAT (Mains).

As per their performance, candidates will be awarded ranks too. The outcome of the second stage-mains will be announced in the form of a final result consisting of both the prelims and the main weighted results. In the case of applicants achieving the same marks, inter-se-merit would be applied in order to break the tie.
Qualified applicants would have to show up for DAT Mains based on the NID DAT Prelims merit list. The number of shortlisted candidates will be three times the number of seats available in that program, per category.
After the results are released, the merit list will be prepared for various courses and released online. No candidate will get results through offline mode.
NID DAT 2023 Answer key will be issued after the exam is complete. Students get to know the correct answers to the questions asked in the test through the answer key. The students will be able to know the probable marks secured in the entrance test based on the answer key provided.
NID answer key will give an idea of the student’s performance in the test. Students should also be aware of their qualifying status and thus will be eligible for further entry.
Candidates must score cut-off marks in order to apply for the entrance exam and get entry. The NID cut-off marks to be scored for various categories are given in the table below:

ST / SC / OBC-NCL / PwD applicants will be declared qualified for the NID DAT entry test on the basis of the relaxation criterion referred to in the table below.

Short-listed names of candidates who qualified for the prelims would be released for merits. Candidates that are shortlisted on the merit list will now be eligible for the Mains exam.
Final merit shall be prepared on the basis of the weighting scores obtained at each admission process level. In prelims, a weight of 30 percent is given and a weighting of 70 percent is given for the mains.
The methodology of the tiebreaker will be utilized in a specified way:
NID will organize counseling for NID DAT 2023 at the Ahmedabad campus. Qualified applicants in the prelims and mains exams of NID DAT 2023 will be able to participate in the counseling procedure in person. To confirm their seats, they would have to bring the original documents to the counseling event and pay the admission fee. On the date announced, they will receive a provisional offer of admission to participate in an in-person counseling process.
In the first week of June 2023, the two-step counseling process for NID 2023 will be performed. In the counseling process, the selected students will be called to take part. The 2 counseling steps are as follows:
Qualified candidates should send their consent online as of June 2023 to be eligible for the next step in counseling. The merit list will be published and uploaded frequently to the official NID website on the basis of online consent.
Once the name of the applicant has been listed on the merit list, for authentication purposes, they have to send a few documents in jpeg format. The requisite documents are as follows:
The documents uploaded will be validated by the data referred to in the application form for NID 2023. In the event of any mismatch, the candidate’s admission is subject to cancellation.

DAT Mains will be held in two parts:
NID Entrance Exam 2023 Syllabus for written test will include various topics such as creativity, comprehension, knowledge and visualization, drawing skills, memory drawing, general mental ability, etc. For the studio test, the syllabus will include various topics such as 3D modeling, body language, observation test, portfolio making, creative thinking, and so on.

From December 2023, NID Entrance Exam Admit Card for prelims will be available online. Students have to enter their login credentials to download admit card for the prelims test. Candidates for the DAT Mains exam will access their admit cards for M.Des in the first week of March 2023 and for B.Des on April 2023.
Admit cards will contain essential information as to the test date, the candidate’s photograph and signature, and a series of directions to be followed by candidates during the examination.
In order to enter the exam hall, candidates must carry their admit card at the exam center along with photo Id proof.
The first phase of the prelims for NID DAT 2023 will take place across 21 cities in India. At the time of completion of the application form, applicants must choose one center. The NID DAT 2023 examination center will be assigned to candidates in accordance with the preferences specified in the application form. At any of the NID campuses, such as Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Gandhinagar, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Assam, the mains will be organized.
