NEST Eligibility Criteria 2023: Qualification Required, Age, Minimum Marks

The aspiring candidates who qualify in the examination can get admission in any of the two institutes, either National Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhubaneswar (NISER), or Center for Excellence in Basic Sciences, Mumbai. NEST 2023 Eligibility Criteria

Following is the detailed eligibility criteria for NEST 2023:

  • Candidates must pass their 10+2 examination from a recognized board in the years 2021 or 2022. However, appearing candidates i.e. candidates who will give 10+2 examination in 2023 can also apply. Check NEST 2023 Admit Card.
  • Candidates should be born on 1st August 2002 or after this date in order to be eligible. However, for reserved categories, a relaxation of five years is given in the age limit.
  • Only Science stream candidates can apply. The candidate must have physics, chemistry and biology/mathematics in order to be eligible to apply for NEST 2023.
  • General category candidates need to obtain minimum aggregate marks of 60%, whereas SC/ST/PwD category candidates need to obtain minimum aggregate marks of 55%. Candidates who obtain marks in terms of grades/alphabets need to submit a certificate from their board with their obtained marks in percentage form.
  • Candidates will have to submit all the necessary certificates and mark sheets in support of their eligibility criteria during the process of admission.

Other Important Details Related to NEST 2023:

  • Aspiring candidates who make it to the merit list after the examination will also be eligible for scholarships from INSPIRE program of the Government of India. The amount will be Rs 5000/- per month and Rs 20,000/- per year for the purpose of summer projects of the candidates. Check NEST 2023 Result.
  • Candidates who top in the end semester examination of the program will be eligible to appear directly for an interview- admission process to Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) Training School.
  • The application process for NEST 2023 will be completely online including the payment of the application fee. The application process will begin from January 2023 up till March 2023.
  • The examination mode will be offline. Subjects tested will be physics, chemistry, mathematics, and biology.
