Frequently Asked Questions

Ques. What does “dual reporting” in the JEE Main context mean?

Ans. The answer is that if you had previously accepted an NIT seat but it has since been upgraded to an IIT seat, you must report to an IIT RC and accept the seat. If not, you will forfeit both seats. The same is true if a candidate’s seat is switched from an IIT to an NIT; in this case, he must report to an NIT RC to accept the seat.

Ques. Can I participate in subsequent rounds of seat allocation without taking the position that has been offered to me right now?

Ans. It is advised not to select any courses in which you have no interest. If you decline the seat, you will be removed from the seat allocation process and will not be permitted to take part in any additional JoSAA rounds. These candidates may take part in the CSAB Special Round (conducted only for NITs, IIITs & GFTIs).

Ques. In the initial round of allocation, I was given a seat. I’m unable to accept the seat at this time due to an unforeseen circumstance. Can I later accept the same seat?

Ans. No, you must report in person and accept your seat during the appropriate round’s seat acceptance period. Failure to comply will result in the loss of the seat and exclusion from the JoSAA seat allocation process. Such candidates can, however, take part in the CSAB Special Round.
